If you love cooking as much as I do you may have thought of creating your own recipe book? Maybe you’ve thought to yourself ‘I wish there was a cook book with all of my favourite recipes in’. Well this is why creating a recipe scrapbook will be one of the best things you do!

Creating a recipe scrapbook
Just imagine having your very own personalised cook book. Filled with all of your own personal favourite recipes and ideas! Wouldn’t that just be perfect? Well this is why creating your very own recipe scrapbook is so great.
A lot of people are put off by the idea of creating their own recipe scrapbook because they see it as something that will take up a huge amount of their time. But in reality this doesn’t need to be the case. Each time you create one of your favourite recipes either cut out the recipe clipping or write it out neatly on a piece of paper. Then when you have the time you can stick it into your scrapbook. Creating the book over time like this means you won’t feel overwhelmed by the sheer number of recipes you need to fill out your book.
How to start a scrapbook for your recipes
You will need to start off with a good sized book or even a ring binder folder. Decorate the covers as you wish or leave plain depending on how creative you want to be. You can easily find recipe cards online or just use lined paper to write your recipes on, cut out and stick in.
If using a folder then coloured card is a great way to get some colour in there. Just stick the lined paper onto the card as you wish. If you struggle to find coloured card then you could try dividers with the tabs snipped off. Dividers also double up as a great recipe index and make your recipes easier to find. You will need this when your folder starts to gain more and more recipes.
If you want to get really creative then svg files like you will find here are really handy. This can be a much cheaper and easier option to buying scrapbooking paper especially when you are scrapbook a lot.
Why create a recipe scrapbook?
Why create a recipe scrapbook? You may ask. If you think of all the times you’ve cooked a new recipe and you and your family loved it. Then, that recipe gets requested again but you can’t remember which recipe book or website it came from. Well that’s why a recipe scrapbook could eventually save you so much time in the future.
I know that personally I have done this many times. I’ve cooked a delicious meal only for the kids to request it again and I can’t for the life of me remember where I got it from. Or I will make a cake and it will turn out to be one of the best we’ve eaten but I can’t remember which website it came from on Google.
If you have a scrapbook at the ready to keep that recipe then you will more than likely hold onto it. Make a note just in case it will be come a family favourite and if it does you know what to do. You will thank your future self when it gets requested and you know exactly where to look for it.
What if I’m not very creative?
The whole idea of a recipe scrapbook is that everyone would have a completely different one. There is no one size fits all with scrapbooking. If you don’t feel as though you are a particularly creative person then stick with plain neat sheets of recipes. It doesn’t even need to look like a scrapbook per se. You could create a nice neat folder of recipes and the effect would still be the same. In fact that would be classed as creative to your personality anyway. It would still save you time and you would have all of your fave recipes in a nice neat organised folder.
If you are a very creative person and you prefer a more unstructured look then you can find crafting bits all over the internet these days. Print offs and stickers would make great additions. You can go as wild as you want or tone it down to be more organised, it’s your scrapbook so have it how you like it.
